Profile

Dr. Nancy Velasco Álvarez holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Biochemical Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus. With a Specialty, Master's Degree and Doctorate in Postgraduate Studies in Biotechnology, from the same Institution.

The lines of research focus on the effect of low intensities of electric current on the metabolism of microorganisms, demonstrating that the application of a current notably increases the metabolic capacity of filamentous fungi to degrade toxic compounds present in solid supports, as well as the stimulation notable in fungal sporulation.

From these results I have developed other lines of research such as the effect of electric current on entomopathogenic fungi as a biological control, demonstrating that the current stimulates the formation of conidia and increases their infectivity on pests. Recently, the topic of electric current has been addressed to stimulate plant growth and the stabilization of heavy metals present in contaminated soils.

Main products: four scientific articles published in JCR magazines; five completed theses, master's degree (2), bachelor's degree (2) and specialty (1); eleven social service projects; nine seminars given in national forums; ten works presented at specialized events.

A project approved and financed by CONACyT Basic Science (CB-2015-01). The project is titled:

"Stimulation of the production and quality of conidiation of entomopathogenic fungi by application of a controlled electrical current".
