Profile

Professor Luis Yoshiaki Ando Ashijara was born in Mexico City and studied Industrial Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus. After working as an independent professional in the field of product and architectural design for eight years, he was a founding partner of a design and architecture firm dedicated to consulting and project development.

He is a founding partner of a design and architecture firm dedicated to consultancy and project development. He is a graduate in Bioclimatic Architecture at the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM, with the aim of expanding the technique and knowledge of the application of sustainability in both architectural design and industrial design, with the research project "Ecotechnology for sustainable use and saving water for sanitary use in urban housing", where he received a Diploma of Academic Mention for the project of the specialty and University Medal of Merit for the master's degree.

His interest in the application of sustainability criteria in design and the contribution to society influenced him to initiate academic activity with the teaching of subjects at undergraduate and graduate level. He is currently a Professor and recently appointed Department Head in the Department of the Environment.

He teaches undergraduate courses in Industrial Design as an advisor in Product Design workshops and terminal projects in Integral Product Development, and in the UEA related to Ergonomics. He has also taught postgraduate courses in the Specialty of Environmental Design and in the Master in Bioclimatic Design.

He initiated a Ph.D. research in Bioclimatic Design which is in the process of completion of the thesis, with the theme "Sound attenuation in natural ventilation devices".

He is part of the Research Area, Artificial Environment Factors and Design and is a member of the Ergonomics Laboratory team of the Division of Science and Arts for Design, where research projects related to social sustainability are developed and has supported people suffering from some types of physical disabilities that require the use of external prostheses or technical aids, and seeks to improve in some aspect their quality of life with applied design.

He has the Desirable Profile, and is responsible for the Academic Group in consolidation "Design, Ergonomics and Universal Accessibility" before PRODEP.

His academic production has focused on articles, book chapters, conferences, and development of prototypes aimed at issues for environmental and social sustainability with the application of design.
