Doctor María Luisa Núñez Resendiz graduated as a Biologist from the Faculty of Sciences at UNAM, where she also obtained a Master of Science degree in the field of Systematics. In 2015, she obtained a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences from UAM.

She carried out several research stays at the Universities of New Brunswick, in Canada, Victoria in Wellington, and Florida in the USA, as well as a postdoctoral stay at UNAM.

She has taught nearly 70 undergraduate and graduate courses at the Iztapalapa Campus of UAM and UNAM. Currently, she has a scientific production of 35 articles and 6 books. She has participated in the training of 15 undergraduate and graduate students, as a supervisor.

From 2018 to the present, she belongs to the National System of Researchers and, since 2023 she joined as full-time profesor at UAM. Her research focuses on Phylogenetic Systematics, Taxonomy, Phylogeography and Ecology in marine algae.
