Profile
Professor Juan Carlos Sígala Alanís is a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); he completed his Ph.D. in Sciences at the Institute of Biotechnology of the same University under the direction of Dr. Francisco Bolívar Zapata. He has two postdoctoral stays, one at the Institute of Biotechnology of the UNAM (2009) and another at the Institute of Bioengineering of the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany (2010) in the group of Dr. Christoph Wittmann.
He has been involved in biotechnological projects, including the design and genetic modification of microorganisms, establishing the best conditions for growth and production, and the study of metabolism through various systems biology techniques.
In July 2011, he joined the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Cuajimalpa Campus. His research lines consider the following main topics: microbial physiology, metabolic engineering in bacteria, and characterization of microorganisms based on transcription analysis.
He has 18 scientific articles in international journals until 2019, one national divulgation article, and has been tutor of three bachelor's thesis, four master's thesis, and one specialization thesis. He is a National Researcher, Level I of the National System of Researchers in the period 2019-2021. He has taught several courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at the Cuajimalpa Campus of the UAM, at the Faculty of Chemistry of the UNAM, at the ITESM campus Cd. de México.
