He completed a Diploma in Endangered Species Management from the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust and the University of Kent at Canterbury, England. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford, England.
His academic production includes 55 scientific and popular articles, 15 books, and 48 book chapters. He has participated in more than 120 conferences, symposia, and workshops and has been invited speaker in academic institutions in Mexico, United States, England, Chile, and Brazil. He works in the ecology and conservation of carnivores and species at risk of extinction, in the reintroduction of species, and in the identification and protection of priority areas for conservation.
Convinced that only with the collaboration of the population will it be possible to face environmental problems, he dedicates a good part of his time to dissemination through conferences, publications for the general public and relies on photography and more recently video, which are some of his passions. He has organized photographic exhibitions to disseminate environmental issues, exhibited in various museums and public spaces in Mexico. He obtained the Recognition for the Conservation of Nature, granted by SEMARNAT in 2011, for his contribution to the creation of the Biosphere Reserve of Janos, Chihuahua. He was Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Lerma Campus, where he founded and is currently Head of the Conservation Biology Research Area.
