Profile
Dr. Luciano Roberto Fernández Sola earned his Civil Engineering degree from the School of Engineering and Architecture at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in 2005. He later pursued graduate studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, completing his Master’s in 2007 and his PhD in Engineering with a specialization in Structures in 2011.
He specializes in seismic engineering and dynamic soil–structure interaction. Through research and teaching, he has built a solid academic career. His publications include indexed journal articles, presentations at national and international conferences, technical reports, and outreach papers, all of which contribute to a deeper understanding of the seismic behavior of structures and foundations.
Since 2011, he has served as a Full Professor-Researcher in the Department of Materials at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. He also took on academic leadership roles, including Coordinator of the Civil Engineering Program (2016–2020) and Head of the Department of Materials in the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering (2024–2025).
Dr. Fernández Sola belongs to the National System of Researchers (Level I) and has held the PRODEP profile since 2013. His academic leadership extends to professional and scholarly associations. He has played an active role in the Mexican Society of Structural Engineering (SMIE), serving as a board member (2010–2016), secretary (2017–2018), and vice president (2021–2022). He also collaborates with the society’s Continuing Education and Student Committee, while participating in the Mexican Society of Geotechnical Engineering and the Mexican Association of Civil Engineers.
In the professional field, he coordinated the Operations Center of the Mexican Association of Civil Engineers during the assessment of structural damage caused by the September 19, 2017, earthquake in Mexico City, contributing to the analysis and response efforts.
His career reflects his strong commitment to research, teaching, and institutional engagement. These qualities now support him in his new role as General Coordinator of Institutional Information at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, where he continues to bring his expertise to strengthen the university’s academic and social impact.
