Profile

Doctor Alejandra García Franco has been a Professor in the Department of Processes and Technology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Cuajimalpa Campus, since 2011, where she teaches Chemistry, Academic Literacy, and Graduate Seminar.

Her basic training is as a Chemical Engineer at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) where she later studied a master's degree and a doctorate in pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature. She did a doctoral stay at the University of Cambridge in England and a postdoctoral stay at the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas of the UNAM.

Her research has revolved around the processes of learning and teaching chemistry, as well as teaching based on models and modeling. She has published articles on teaching-learning sequences and edited a book presenting teachers' work on the use of models and modeling in the teaching of natural sciences.

She has worked in the field of interculturality, particularly in communities of native peoples in the Montaña region of the State of Guerrero and in the Highlands of Chiapas. Her work revolves around the domestication of corn as a source of knowledge in the communities, and her interest lies mainly in incorporating local knowledge into the school to establish dialogues of knowledge. She has presented this work at international events and published two articles in books edited by Springer Nature.

She also collaborates with teachers who intend to innovate in the classroom, accompanying them in the process and reflecting together on different ways of teaching and documenting improvement in teaching. She has edited the book "Didactics in Action" which compiles experiences of university professors and establishes dialogues with pedagogical theories.

She participates as a professor and tutor in the Master's Degree in Biology Teaching for Citizenship Education at CINVESTAV-Monterrey, in Mexico.

She is editor of the journal Educación Química.
