Professor Maximiliano Martínez Bohórquez studied Philosophy at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2003). He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2008).

He is currently working on two research projects, one in the philosophy of biology and the other in metaethics. In the first one, he developed a causal framework for EvoDevo (Evolutionary Biology of Development), where he linked evolution, development, and complex systems from the notion of multilevel causality.

He relies on recent experimental work in systems biology and morphogenesis (in parallel, he explores the incidence of EvoDevo in the philosophy of mind and in problems about the evolution of cognition). In the other project, he concentrates on the problem of the origin of morality from a naturalistic approach. He analyzes, in particular, the role of cooperation in the basis of morality, to later enter into the realism vs. anti-realism debate and defend a minimalist realist metaethical position. Recently he has become interested in the issues of welfare and normativity, mainly from the metaethical point of view.

After graduating and before joining the Department of Humanities at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Cuajimalpa Campus, he did postdoctoral research stays in the History and Philosophy of Science program at Florida State University, in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Bielefeld and at the Institute of Philosophical Research of the UNAM.
