Professor José Cortés Zorrilla is a graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He has postgraduate studies in Biology of Animal Reproduction and Animal Production at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and UNAM. He did research stays as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Department of Neurobiology at The Babraham Institute in Great Britain and the Department of Rural Buildings (LBT), Swedish University of Agricultural Science (SLU), Alnarp, Sweden.
He was Assistant Professor, Subject Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at UNAM, Researcher at the National Institute of Livestock Research, and Research Professor at the Department of Zootechnics at UAChapingo.
He has been a Professor in the Department of Reproductive Biology in the Agricultural Production Systems Research Area and is currently Professor at the UAM. He was Head of the Reproductive Biology department. Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Animal Production and the Master's Degree in Biology of Animal Reproduction.
He has directed 15 graduate theses, is the author or co-author of more than 50 papers and has written book chapters. Member of various National and International Scientific Societies and Academic Networks.
His lines of research include:
Technological management of restricted use of external inputs to improve animal species' productive and reproductive behavior beneficial to man in production systems associated with urban or rural environments.
Evaluation of renewable natural resources and solid waste as inputs to support animal production in urban or rural environments and generation of technology for the restricted use of external inputs to improve the productivity of the systems.
Comprehensive development of agricultural production systems in the physical, biotic, social, economic, and cultural urban or rural environments based on preserving the environment's natural renewable resources that promote community well-being.
Knowledge processes in creating culture as an element of appropriation and adaptation in the development of traditional technology based on the limited use of external inputs.
