Profile

Professor Gabriel Ricardo Campos Montes was born in Mexico City in July 1971. He is a Veterinary Zootechnician who graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Master´s and Ph.D. in Production Sciences and Animal Health, both from the same institution. He joined the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in 2010 and is part of the National System of Researchers as Level I.

His main research areas are:

1) Insect production as an alternative for the production of low-cost protein for human and animal consumption, participating in the design of experiments and in the analysis of the genetic variability of the study populations.

2) Development of strategies to establish genetic improvement programs in freshwater ornamental fish, mainly in under-capitalized production systems.

3) Development of shrimp genetic lines for rapid growth and disease resistance. He is currently leading this working group whose main lines of research focus on the development and evaluation of selection criteria, estimation of genetic parameters, as well as the analysis and evaluation of selection schemes and the use of genomic tools.
