Profile

PhD in Sociology from El Colegio de México (2018), MA in Social Sciences from FLACSO Mexico (2014), and BA in Sociology from the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), Azcapotzalco campus (2010). He completed a research stay at the University of Texas at Austin (2017) and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Instituto Mora (2021–2024). Since 2020, he has been a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII), Level I.

He is currently a professor in the Sociology undergraduate program and in the General Core Curriculum of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), Iztapalapa Campus.

He is the author of the book A Warm Face of the State: Socioanthropology of Political Clientelism, published by El Colegio de México, as well as several research articles. His most recent publications include: “Public Space, With Class? Socio-spatial Habitus in Upper-Middle and Upper Strata,” published in Estudios Sociológicos (2025); “Everyday Conflicts Between Long-term and New Residents of Las Granadas, Mexico City,” published in Cuadernos de Antropología Social (2024); and “The Politics of the Maternal Among Neighborhood Leaders in Public Space,” published in Desacatos (2023).

His most recent book chapters include: “What Is Said in Miguel Hidalgo? Emotions, Politics, and Morality,” in The Practice of Oral History: Essays, Experiences, and Methodological Resources (Instituto Mora Press, 2024), and “Informal Institutions and Disputes from Below: Contributions from the Moral Sociology of Money,” in Democratic Expectations and Institutions in Dispute (Instituto Mora Press, 2022).

He currently co-coordinates the project “Evaluation of Participatory Budgeting in Mexico City: Scope, Limitations, and Citizen Impact,” funded by the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Mexico City (SECTEI) and based at Iztapalapa Campus.

He serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Estudios Sociológicos (El Colegio de México) for the 2026–2028 period. In 2018, he received the Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertations in Social Sciences and Humanities from the Mexican Academy of Sciences.

He has also participated in the evaluation of public programs and policies, including the Public University System and the Scholarship Program of the Secretariat of Education of the Government of the State of Mexico.
