Dr. Araceli Mondragón González holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), as well as a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at UNAM. She has completed research fellowships at the University of California, Berkeley (USA) and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). She serves as General Director of the journal Argumentos. Estudios Críticos de la Sociedad within the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities at UAM Xochimilco and is a member of the Editorial Board of Revista de Estudios Utópicos (REUTOPIA), published by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). At UAM Xochimilco, she has served as Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Sociology (2022-2023) and Head of the research areas Domination Processes, Social Classes, and Democratization (2013-2015) and Social Space, Region, and Rural Organization (2020-2022).

She serves as a Full-Time Professor in the Department of Social Relations within the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco.

Her research focuses on memory and utopian function in state-society relations, 20th-century Marxist thought, the work of Ernst Bloch, interculturality, decolonial thought, and the sociopolitical restructuring of capital. She is a member of the international research project DECOLTOPIA ("Decolonizing Utopia: Non-Western, Anticolonial, and Decolonial Utopianism"), funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain and the European Union.
