Professor Martín Clavé Almeida, Mexican, researcher, ceramist by the Escuela de Artesanías, is an industrial designer by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and master in history by the Universidad Iberoamericana.

He has spent most of his professional career in Italy, where he has worked on design projects for medium and large industries such as IBM Italia, Philips Lighting, Polaroid Corporation, and the Monza racetrack; and in Mexico with Banamex, Compañía Vinícola el Vergel, Conaculta, INBA, and others. Author of numerous articles on various topics of design, art, and history, of a book published in Italy and another in Mexico, as well as chapters of others in Mexico, has lectured and participated in conventions, congresses, exhibitions, and juries of national and international design competitions.

Since 1992, when he returned to Mexico, he has dedicated himself to his profession in his own office Spiral Design, S.A. de C.V., and to teaching as a professor at the Universidad Iberoamericana and at the Escuela de Artesanías; since 2010 he has been a Professor and head of the Design History Area (2010-2019) of the Department of Design Evaluation in Time, at the CyAD Division of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus.

From April 1995 to September 1997, President of the Colegio de Diseñadores Industriales y Gráficos de México A.C. (Association of Industrial and Graphic Designers of Mexico).

He has been curator of the Carlotta Mapelli Mozzi Collection of indigenous textiles since 2012.

He is a member of CODIGRAM (Colegio de Diseñadores Industriales y Gráficos de México), ADI (Associazione per el Disegno Industriale) of Italy; BEDA (Bureau of European Designers Association) and SOGEM (Sociedad General de Escritores Mexicanos).

Being Spanish his mother tongue, he speaks, translates, and writes correctly also English and Italian; French, and Catalan at an intermediate level.

His passion is reading, and he has a good personal library; he is also a researcher, historian, writer, prosopographer, malacologist, collector, photographer and enamelist. He is married and has two daughters.
