Profile
Dr. Noé Manuel Montaño Arias is Biologist, graduated with honors from the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza (FES-Zaragoza), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Doctor of Science from the Center for Research in Ecosystems (Now: Institute for Research in Ecosystems and Sustainability) , UNAM Campus Morelia, Postdoctorate in Legume Biology and Soil Ecology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus (UAM), and Diploma in Educational Technologies from UNESCO-UAM.
He is Full Professor “C”, time indeterminate, in the Department of Biology, Division of Biological and Health Sciences at the Iztapalapa Campus of UAM, where since 2016 he has been Head of the Botany Area. He is a Level I National Researcher by the National System of Researchers of CONACyT-Mexico and a Desirable Profile Professor PRODEP-Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP-Mexico). He belongs to the consolidated Academic Research Body-SEP “Leguminous Biosystematics”. His thesis on mycorrhizal fungi and soil from a semi-arid area of Mexico received an honorable mention from the Botanical Society of Mexico. In his doctoral thesis he studied carbon availability and its effect on the dynamics of nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil of a dry tropical forest. This thesis received an honorable mention from the Mexican Scientific Society of Ecology.
He has obtained diplomas from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México and UNAM, and has been a scholarship from UNAM, Fundación Telmex, UAM-I, SEP and CONACyT. He has participated with 109 papers in national conferences and 55 in international ones and is a member of the Mexican Society of Mycorrhizal Symbiosis, the Botanical Society of Mexico, the Mexican Society of Soil Science, the Mexican Scientific Society of Ecology, the Mexican Network for Long-Term Ecological Research and the Thematic Network of Socioecosystems and Sustainability of CONACyT.
He has published 39 scientific articles in indexed journals, 7 local articles in refereed journals, 14 book chapters, 20 dissemination notes in bulletins and newspapers in Mexico and is the editor of a scientific book. In addition, he has been referee for international indexed journals and guest editor in journals indexed by CONACyT-Mexico. His research areas are Ecology and Biogeochemistry, focusing on the plant-microorganism-soil relationships of tropical dry ecosystems and agroecosystems. He has extracurricular courses in Statistics, Bioconservation, Distribution Models, Ecological Restoration and Climate Change.
He has been professor (5,820 hrs in front of a group) of Population Ecology, an Ecology and Physicochemistry Seminar at FES Zaragoza, UNAM, as well as two Ecology courses for admission to the UNAM Postgraduate Program. Likewise, at the UAM-I he has taught in the Bachelor's degree in Biology (Microbiology and Evolution, Mycology, General Biology, Soil Science and Biogeography), in the Postgraduate at the Master's level (Ecological and Evolutionary Theory II) and in three Updating courses. Postgraduate level: Soil ecology: a biogeochemical approach, Ecosystem Ecology and Terrestrial Biogeochemistry, and Arbuscular mycorrhiza and biogeochemical cycles. To date, he has directed 12 Social Services, 2 Bachelor's theses, 6 Master's theses (3 in process) and participated in Master's (3) and Doctorate tutorial committees (2 completed and 5 in process).
