Profile
Dr. Mariela Hada Fuentes Ponce is a Full-Time Tenured Professor at Level C in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production within the Division of Biological and Health Sciences at the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.
She completed her Bachelor's degree in Agronomy at the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, her Master's degree in Soil Science at the College of Postgraduates, Mexico, and her Doctorate in Biological Sciences at the Mixed Postgraduate College with the University of Salamanca, Spain, in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition, and Bromatology. The title of her thesis was "Soil carbon dynamics in agricultural systems under different management regimes and application of chemometric methods for its determination."
Belongs to the National System of Researchers and holds Recognition for Desirable Profile PRODEP.
She is part of the Research Area of Agricultural Systems under Limiting Conditions of Production, of the Sustainable Agriculture Academic Body, and is responsible for the Water and Soil Laboratory of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences.
Research lines include: Redesign of agricultural systems with a focus on ecological intensification and participatory research, specializing in soil fertility and quality, as well as the environmental impact of agroecosystems, specifically greenhouse gases.
The results of these lines have been published in indexed journals (more than 25) and dissemination, book chapters, journalistic articles, as well as in the generation of manuals aimed at producers and technicians.
Belongs to the editorial committee of the Terra Latinoamericana Journal and is an associate editor of the publication Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems.
