Profile

Master Marco Diego Vargas Ugalde earned a bachelor's degree in social communication from the Xochimilco campus of the UAM in Mexico and a master's degree in information management from the University of Havana in Cuba. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Humanities with a specialization in Film Theory and Analysis at the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM.

He is a full-time, level E Titular academic technician in the Department of Education and Communication at the Xochimilco campus, where he teaches film theory and leads workshops on graphic communication, multimedia production, and film and television production as part of the bachelor's degree program in social communication.

He participates in projects related to film, audiovisual production, and digital media literacy as part of the Academic Area of Transdisciplinary Communication in Media Convergence.

His research focuses on film, particularly science fiction, as well as bodily practices and the relationship between the body, technology, and posthumanism.

He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Tramas. Subjetividad y procesos sociales, and he helped coordinate Issue 62, titled “Cine. Cuerpo y Subjetividad” in 2024.

From 2012 to 2016, he directed the Laboratory for the Design and Creation of Learning Objects in the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities. This project produced educational websites for undergraduate programs such as psychology, social communication, and business administration. As the operations manager of the UAM-Universia Multimedia Classroom, he designed and taught workshops on online research techniques; managed the production of instructional materials, educational platforms, and institutional videos; and provided guidance to the student body on their academic projects.

From 2012 to 2015, he served as the Web Design and Content Update Coordinator for the magazine Versión. Estudios de comunicación y política, published by the Department of Education and Communication at the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM.

Throughout his career, he has led workshops on research methodology and techniques for searching for and retrieving information online, aimed at promoting the use of academic databases, information management, and the optimization of results for academic practice.

From 2004 to 2011, he served as the founding operations manager of the UAM-Universia Multimedia Classroom at the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM, where his primary responsibility was to promote and disseminate digital culture through the development and coordination of multimedia research and development projects with faculty and members of the student body.
