In 2000, he received his B.S. degree in Biology from the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Profesionales Iztacala, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). In 2004, he graduated with a Master's degree in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. In 2009, he obtained a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the same institution. From 2010 to 2011, he completed a postdoctoral stay at the Biological Station of Doñana, Seville, Spain. Since 2012, he works as a Professor at the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM, where he teaches courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
He is part of the National System of Researchers, Level I and the Program for the Professional Development of Teachers (PRODEP).
His research interests focus on phylogenetic and phylogeographic reconstructions based on molecular data. He has also been interested in the compilation of information on Mexican mastozoology in order to envision and propose guidelines on which to focus efforts in the study of the mammals of our country.
He has collaborated in the publication of several scientific manuscripts, among them: "105 years of mastozoological research in Mexico (1890-1995): a review of its approaches and trends", "Molecular phylogeography of Pteronotus davyi (Chiroptera: Mormoopidae) in Mexico" or "Conservation units of Pteronotus davyi (Chiroptera: Mormoopidae) in Mexico based on phylogeographical analysis".
Concerning popular science articles, he has published works such as: "Cryptic species. Different species with the same form", "Bats: natural controllers of agricultural pests" and "Perspectives on the origin and phylogeny of bats".
He has been part of different tutorial committees for the graduation of one undergraduate, six Master's and one Ph.D. student.
Currently, he is associate editor of the journal Hidrobiológica of the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM.
