Mtra. Raquel María Ramírez Villegas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the National Polytechnic Institute. She earned a Master’s degree in Social Medicine from the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and completed graduate studies in Victimology at the National Institute of Criminal Sciences (INACIPE). She currently pursues a PhD in Collective Health Sciences at the Xochimilco Campus of UAM.

In her professional career, she worked as a pediatric nurse and, since 2011, she has served as a professor-researcher in the Department of Health Care at the Xochimilco Campus of UAM. She actively contributes to the Undergraduate Nursing Program and the Master’s Program in Advanced Nursing Practice.

Throughout her academic and administrative career, she has held positions such as Head of the Research Area in State and Health Services and Coordinator of Social Service in the Division of Biological and Health Sciences. Outside the university, she works as an independent expert in the application of the Istanbul Protocol. She also teaches in diploma programs at the National School of Forensic Sciences and FES Zaragoza of UNAM, and collaborates with various human rights organizations.

Her research focuses on the analysis of health programs and policies in neoliberal contexts, the impact of community-based work on nursing education, and access to sexual and reproductive health services among Indigenous women in the Costa Chica region of Guerrero.

She belongs to the Latin American Association of Social Medicine (Mexico region) and serves on the Board of the National Network of Experts Against Torture. She has authored book chapters and articles published in indexed academic journals.
