Profile
Professor Pedro Sunyer Martin was born in Barcelona, Spain, in October 1962. He is a geographer who graduated from the University of Barcelona. He holds a degree and Ph.D. in Geography from the same University. He was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize for his thesis "La configuración de la Ciencia del Suelo en España, 1750-1950" (1993) which is also published by Doce Calles-Ministerio de Agricultura (1997). He is also a Technician in Environmental Studies, by the University Study Center (Barcelona, Spain) and Technician in Geographic Information Systems, by UNIGIS-Girona.
From 1994 to 1997, he collaborated in the Department of Environment and Sectorial Policy of the Comissió Obrera Nacional de Catalunya (CONC), as a disseminator of environmental issues, working in Mexico since 1997, where he arrived through the Young Doctors Program (ANUIES/ AECI-Embassy of Spain).
Between 1997 and 2008, he worked at the ENEP-Aragon of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), at the Aragon Technology Center. Since 2008, he is a Professor in the Bachelor's Degree in Human Geography (Department of Sociology) at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus.
His lines of research focus on historical geography, landscape studies, and mountain geography. At the same time, he has worked on the History of Science (Soil Science) and the History of Geography. He is a member of the National System of Researchers (Level I) (CONACyT) and has the recognition of desirable profile of PRODEP since 2008 to date.
