Profile
Dr. Julio Cesar Almanza Pérez is an Experimental Biologist by training and holds a master’s and doctoral degree in Experimental Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus. He is currently a Full-Time Tenured Professor, Level C, at the Pharmacology Laboratory of the Department of Health Sciences, Division of Biological and Health Sciences. He has been recognized as a Professor with the Desired Profile (Prodep-SEP) and as a National Researcher Level II in Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI), under CONACYT.
For the past 15 years, he has conducted cutting-edge research within the Pharmacology research group at UAM, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the line of research titled: “Pharmacology of medicinal plants and diseases related to metabolic syndrome,” as well as in parallel research lines within the same group. His contributions have been essential to the evolution and maintenance of these research lines, enabling the group to consolidate its position in the areas of Pharmacodynamics and Molecular Pharmacology of natural and synthetic products, focusing on elucidating mechanisms of pharmacological action. Additionally, Dr. Almanza has contributed to the implementation of various pharmacological evaluation models, including in vivo, in situ, in vitro, and in silico approaches. This has established his research group as a benchmark in the study of natural and synthetic resources with therapeutic potential for diseases associated with metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and inflammation, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Almanza has contributed to the publication of 75 research articles and the training of 70 human resources (43 undergraduate, 14 master’s, 9 doctoral, and 4 postdoctoral researchers). He has participated in 218 specialized scientific events (148 national and 70 international). His involvement also includes serving on evaluation committees for research projects, graduate academic commissions, examination and hiring committees, editorial boards, and as a peer reviewer for various indexed international journals. Furthermore, he has been the principal investigator on several research projects funded by institutions such as CONAHCYT, SECTEI, and SEP. He also maintains collaborative ties with researchers from various public health and educational institutions, both nationally and internationally.
