Professor José Luis Cosme Álvarez is originally from the state of Tlaxcala; he completed his undergraduate studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala, obtaining the degree of Bachelor in Applied Mathematics in 2004 with the thesis "Development of interior point methods for linear programming". A year later, his thesis was recognized with first place for the best undergraduate thesis in Applied Mathematics by the Mexican Society of Scientific Computing and its Applications (SMCCA) and the National School of Optimization and Numerical Analysis (ENOAN). His master's and doctoral studies were done at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, whose research line is Discrete Mathematics, particularly Graph and Coloration Theory.
He has presented his research work in specialized events such as the Victor Neuman-Lara Colloquium on Graph Theory and its Applications, Couloring, Independence and Domination, Workshop on Graph Theory (CID), and the International School of Mathematics (EIMAT), among others.
He is currently part of the Department of Mathematics, where he has taught subjects related to Discrete Mathematics and Optimization. He has directed several terminal works to students of the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics in topics of Interior Point Methods, Optimization, Graph Theory, Crossover Number and Dominant Sets.
