Profile
Professor Vázquez-Contreras academic and scientific career began at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is a Biologist who graduated from the Faculty of Sciences; with a Master's in Basic Biomedical Research and Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences; he received an honorable mention. He did a postdoctoral stay at the Faculty of Chemistry in the Department of Physics and Theoretical Chemistry. From 2001 to 2007 he was an associate researcher at the Institute of Chemistry in the Department of Biochemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the NUCE groups of the UNAM School of Medicine (1997-2007). Since 2008, he has worked as a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in the Department of Natural Sciences at the Cuajimalpa campus.
Among his distinctions, he has been recognized as a candidate for National Researcher and Level 1 of the National System of Researchers, PROMEP profile (currently PRODEP) of the SEP, scholarships from UNAM, and CONACYT, support for research projects and Technological development. He did a research stay at the University of Padova in Italy. He is a member of the arbitration portfolio of several instances, including CONACYT and various magazines and institutions. He received the teaching award from UAM-Cuajimalpa in 2013.
He has published research articles, dissemination articles, bibliographic reviews, book chapters, and books. He has supervised undergraduate, specialization, master's, and doctoral theses at various universities.
Professor Vázquez-Contreras has been a member of the organizing committee of the "First Meeting of Youth and the Environment", the "Biochemical Update Workshop 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005", the First and Second Symposium on Proteins in Mexico, and the three Forums of the UAM and Health.
He was a reviewer of the participating papers in the "first national contest to read science from Mexico". He is a founding member of the Physicochemistry, Protein Structure, and Design Branch of the Mexican Society of Biochemistry, where he coordinated the first five congresses and the first four international workshops. He is a founding member of the Physical Chemistry and Protein Structure Network (REFEP) of CONACyT (2016). He is also part of the commission that gave rise to the Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology and the Postgraduate Degree in Natural Sciences and Engineering at UAM Cuajimalpa campus.
