Profile

Dr. Leonel Flores Vega holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM, a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM, and a Ph.D. in Urban and Environmental Studies from El Colegio de México. He is a Level 1 member of the National System of Researchers (SNII) for the 2025–2029 term and has received the PRODEP “Desirable Profile” Recognition.

His scholarly output includes co-authorship of the book *A Research Program on State Reform in Latin America...* (2014), as well as various book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals such as *Espacios Públicos*, *Polis* (Chile), and *Gestión y Estrategia*. Her areas of research include public administration, land policies, local development, territorial management, and the social economy, complemented by experience in the evaluation of budgetary programs.

In terms of teaching, he serves as a Research Professor in the Department of Administration at UAM Azcapotzalco. He has a decade of teaching experience at the graduate level at CEUSS University in Chiapas (2015–2024) and worked as an instructor in criminal intelligence analysis for the Attorney General’s Office in 2018. He also actively participates in training professionals by supervising and evaluating doctoral dissertations and master’s theses at the UAM and the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo.

With regard to the preservation and dissemination of culture, he has presented his research at specialized international forums in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Uruguay, Portugal, and Chile. He disseminates social knowledge through studies on the self-management of resources in Otomí communities and native honey production networks in Puebla, Veracruz, and Yucatán, participating regularly in conferences, colloquia, and other national and international events.

In the field of institutional management, he has served since 2025 as Divisional Coordinator of Planning in the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities at UAM Azcapotzalco. He was Director of the Comprehensive Graduate Program in Administrative Sciences (2022–2025) and a member of the Departmental Coordination Board for Administration. In public service, he served as Deputy Director of Control and Management at the Federal Ministerial Police of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) between 2018 and 2019.

He has received awards such as the 2006 State Youth Award for Written Essay, granted by the Government of the State of Mexico and the Instituto Mexiquense de la Juventud (2007); the BBVA Bancomer Foundation Colmex Award for Excellence (2015); the Tokyo Foundation’s Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund International Scholarship (2015); and the 2020 Chapa de Mota Award for Merit in the academic category.
