Profile

Dr. Iván Pável Moreno Espíndola holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences, a Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, and a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, having received the Medalla al Mérito Universitario for all three academic degrees. He has completed international research stays, including at the University of Groningen (Netherlands, 2023).

He serves as a Full-Time Faculty Researcher (Asociado D) in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco, where he currently serves as Department Head, having previously served as Coordinator of the Bachelor's Program in Agronomy. He holds active PRODEP status.

His scientific research focuses on soil ecology and its role in sustainable agricultural production, investigating how soil microorganisms (bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi, and endophytes) determine soil health and agroecosystem productivity. His methodology integrates microbial ecology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, enzymatic assays, microscopy, and field-validated biological soil quality indicators. He has presented at national and international conferences in Mexico, Peru, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Outstanding publications: He has authored research articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Frontiers in Microbiology, Botanical Sciences, and Applied Soil Ecology. His central objective is to translate scientific knowledge into concrete tools for sustainable soil and agrobiodiversity management, with particular emphasis on traditional farming systems and small-scale producers.
