Profile

Professor José Antonio Ramírez Calvo studied Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), and completed the Specialty in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Hospital de Gineco-Obstetricia No.3 Centro Médico la Raza del IMSS and the subspecialty in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the National Institute of Perinatology, both with the endorsement of the UNAM. He studied for a Master's Degree in Teaching at the UNID without graduating and completed the credits for the Master's Degree in Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine UNAM.

He is attached to the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine of the National Institute of Perinatology and Associate Professor of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus, where he teaches the Reproduction Module of the Bachelor of Medicine. His area of research is on medical complications of pregnancy, with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of placenta accreta spectrum, Diabetes in pregnancy and preeclampsia, in prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy, and in the learning process in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

This year (2022), he received his appointment as National Researcher Level I of the National System of Researchers, for his teaching and publications in medical journals at the national and international levels. He was Associate Editor of the Journal of Scientific Research of the National Institutes of Health and has participated in the development of Clinical Practice Guidelines of CENETEC of the Ministry of Health, and has directed more than a dozen medical specialty theses.

He is a member of the Mexican College of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the Latin American Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Societies, and is certified by the corresponding Councils in his two medical specialties.
