Dean of the Xochimilco Campus for the 2025–2029 Term

Dr. Buendía Espinosa graduated from Escuela Normal No. 21. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Administration from the UAM Iztapalapa Campus, and completed a PhD in Social Sciences, Society and Education, as well as a master’s degree in Economics and Management of Technological Change at UAM’s Xochimilco Campus.

She carried out research stays at Stanford University, the International Center for Higher Education Research at Kassel University, and the CINDA University Development Center in Chile. She has also worked as administrative staff, a professor, a researcher, and an academic official in public, private, and social higher education institutions. She served as general coordinator of the Institutional Analysis Laboratory of the Mexican University System.

Her research output includes more than 120 publications in prestigious journals and publishing houses, and she has delivered over 150 presentations at national and international specialist events.

At the Cuajimalpa Campus, she headed the Technical Office of the Academic Council and led the academic group “Public Management and Social Organization.” At UAM’s Xochimilco Campus, she coordinated the master’s program in Education Development and Planning and the “Society and Education” area of the PhD in Social Sciences. She also headed the Department of Economic Production, founded the Academic Area on Inequality and Social Transformation, and launched the Inter-Campus Network for Educational Research and Intervention. In addition, she served as Secretary of the Xochimilco Campus. She has taken part in—and often coordinated—numerous commissions and working groups focused on institutional development and strengthening of UAM’s core functions.

She participates in academic committees, commissions, councils, and review boards, and has advised various governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as higher-education institutions in Mexico and abroad. She is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, holds Level III in the National System of Researchers (SNII), and is a member of the Mexican Council of Educational Research (COMIE), where she served as president from 2018 to 2019.
