Professor André Dorcé is a specialist in communication and cultural studies. He holds a degree in Social Communication from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus. In 1998, he produced and directed the documentary "Health and Nutrition in Yucatan" under the auspices of the Mexican Health Foundation. He also worked in 2000 as a news editor at ALO.com. In 2005, he received a Ph.D. in Media and Communication Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he developed his research project under the direction of Professor David Morley. In 2006, he did a postdoctoral stay at the Department of Anthropology of the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM, under the direction of Néstor García Canclini, where he continued his research on television fiction and its audiences developed during his Ph.D.
Professor Dorcé has focused his research on the complex relationships between transmedia cultural production, circulation, and consumption and the formation of political culture and citizenship in Mexico, as well as on the emerging technological configurations in the field of communication and information. From 2007 to 2009, he did a postdoctoral research stay under the direction of Rosalía Winocur at the Department of Education and Communication of the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM, where he developed a research on the audiences of public cultural television in Mexico City and the patterns of Internet use in relation to television consumption.
In 2007, Professor Dorcé designed and coordinated the first Defensoría del Televidente project in Mexico deployed for Canal 22. In 2011, he was appointed Defensor del Televidente in that same instance, where he served until March 2013. He was a founding member of the Programming Council of UAM Radio. He has collaborated with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City in the preparation of the green book for the cultural policy of Mexico City. He also participated with AMEDI in the coordination of the forum on "Audience Rights" at the National Meeting for Quality and Diversity in the Media.
He has published several academic articles, as well as chapters in specialized books, and participated in multiple forums and national and international congresses on communication and culture. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences at the Cuajimalpa Campus of the UAM, where he has also participated in the design and planning of the undergraduate program in Communication Sciences. He has also been a professor of the Postgraduate course in cultural policies and management taught jointly by the Iztapalapa Campus, the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), and CONACULTA. He has also been a member of the faculty of the Graduate Program in Anthropological Sciences at the Iztapalapa Campus. He has also developed several consulting activities in strategic communication for public and private entities.
