Profile
Professor Edgar Tapia Hernández is a Doctor in Structural Engineering and Professor – Researcher in the Sustainability and Technological Development Area of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus, in Mexico City.
With over 80 research papers published on structural engineering, he has made significant contributions to the field. He has also co-authored four books on the analysis and design of structures and has directed over 30 Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate theses in Engineering. He was the President of the Mexican Society of Seismic Engineering (SMIS) form 2020 to 2021.
Additionally, he has been a visiting professor at the University of California in San Diego, United States (2014) and conducted research stays at the École Polytechnique of Montreal, Canada (2008 and 2009). He belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Mexico since 2013.
He is a reviewer for various specialized international journals and participates in different committees to develop standards and regulations. He is member of severla subcommittees, including:
- The Complementary Technical Standards for the Design and Construction of Steel Structures (NTC-DCEA) of the Mexico City Building Code.
- The Complementary Technical Standards for Earthquake Design (NTC-DS) of the Mexico City Building Code.
- The technical Committee for Structural Safety of the Institute of Educational Infrastructure (INIFED) of Mexico.
- Member of the Coordinating Committee for preparing the Mexican Model Code for the Seismic Design of Buildings.
