Doctor Adriana Gómez Bonilla is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. She also has an interdisciplinary background, she holds a Ph.D. in Rural Development from the UAM Xochimilco Campus and a master's degree focused on Ecology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI). Her research interests are political ecology, indigenous autonomy, rural studies, socio-environmental conflicts, territory and climate change, as well as gender and environment.

Currently, her research project is on territorial transformations and socio-environmental conflicts in the original people of Milpa Alta. Similarly, for 15 years, she has been researching environmental services and public policies, as well as social movements and indigenous autonomy.

From 2013 to 2016, she was coordinator of the Working Group of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), native peoples, and autonomies Movements and policies in Latin America. She is currently part of the Gender, Society, and Environment Network of CONACyT. Her publications include articles and book chapters on indigenous peoples, indigenous autonomy, indigenous peoples, rural development, and gender. She has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
