Profile
Dr. Jorge Iván Aldana González earned his degree in Chemical Engineering in 2007 from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus. At the same institution, he completed a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2010 and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering in 2013. He carried out postdoctoral research stays at the Center for Research in Engineering and Applied Sciences (CIICAp) of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos and at the School of Chemical Engineering and Extractive Industries (ESIQIE) of the National Polytechnic Institute.
At UAM’s Azcapotzalco Campus, he has held various academic positions since 2007: Research Assistant B, Graduate Assistant (2011), Adjunct Professor (2014), and subsequently tenured faculty positions as Assistant Professor (2019), Associate Professor (2022), and currently Full Professor “B” in the Department of Materials within the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering.
Since his time as a graduate student, he has actively participated in university governance, serving as a graduate student representative to the Divisional Council of Basic Sciences and Engineering (2012). As a faculty member, he has twice served on this governing body (2020 and 2022) as the academic representative of the Department of Materials. He has also been a member of the Academic Committee of the Chemical Engineering undergraduate program and the Master’s Program in Electromagnetic Engineering.
In terms of academic administration, he has served as Head of the Materials Engineering Area (2020), Divisional Coordinator of Teaching of the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering at the Azcapotzalco Campus, and currently serves as Coordinator of the Teaching Laboratories of the Department of Materials.
He has participated as an invited speaker at numerous national and international forums on topics related to electrochemistry and materials science. In research, he holds the PRODEP Desirable Profile recognition and has been a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers since 2017; he currently holds the distinction of National Researcher Level II, valid through 2029.
Among his main academic achievements and recognitions are:
• 33 articles published in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) of the Institute for Scientific Information (Clarivate Analytics).
• 63 papers published in conference proceedings.
• Participation in 35 international conferences and 55 national conferences.
• Supervision of 28 undergraduate theses, 94 master’s theses, and 3 doctoral dissertations.
• University Merit Medal (awarded twice) for academic excellence in his Master’s and Doctoral studies.
• Research Award for the best doctoral dissertation at UAM, Azcapotzalco Campus.
• First place in a doctoral-level research poster competition and third place in the annual competition organized by The Electrochemical Society and the Mexican Society of Electrochemistry.
He is a member of several scientific societies, including the International Society of Electrochemistry, The Electrochemical Society, and the Mexican Society of Electrochemistry. He is also listed in the National Registry of Researchers in Materials Science and Engineering of the Mexican Materials Society.
