Profile
Prof. Beltran studied Industrial Chemical Engineering with a specialty in Environmental Engineering from 1993 to 1998 at the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Extractive Industries (ESIQIE) of the IPN. He carried out his doctoral work from 1998 to 2002 in the Chemistry Department of CINVESTAV-IPN, where he studied the incorporation of the elements boron and tin in molecular structures with biological importance since they contain fragments derived from amino acids, amino alcohols and amino phenols. Due to this research, he was awarded the 2003 Arturo Rosenblueth Prize for the best Doctoral Thesis in the area of Exact and Natural Sciences by CINVESTAV. In 2003, he entered the Molecular Engineering Program of the Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP) as a postdoctoral fellow, carrying out projects related to Applied Chemistry at an industrial level, where he remained until 2005. In that same year, he entered as Associate Researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the UNAM where he developed structure-activity studies of organometallic compounds of tin. As of August 2006, he is Professor-Researcher in the Department of Natural Sciences, of the Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering (DCNI) of the UAM, Cuajimalpa campus. As of April 2018, he is assigned to the Department of Basic Sciences, DCBI, in the Azcapotzalco campus of the UAM until now.
His scientific production includes 91 research articles and 8 popular articles, 13 national and international patents and 6 book chapters, a chapter included in the Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry encyclopedia and another chapter in the book Tin Chemistry: Fundamentals, Frontiers and Applications ( Wiley) Ed. M. Gielen, A.G. Davies, K. Panell, E. Tiekink. To date, he has directed 32 undergraduate theses and final undergraduate projects, 1 specialization thesis, 12 master's theses (ICR) and 10 doctoral theses. He is directing 2 doctoral theses, 6 master's theses and 8 final undergraduate projects, much of the above in co-direction with academic staff from the DCBI of Azcapotzalco campus, DCNI of Cuajimalpa campus, and DCBS of Xochimilco campus.
