Profile

Dr. Gerardo Pérez Hernández obtained his degree in Biology in 1995 at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla and completed his doctoral studies in Biochemical Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, conducting his research on the molecular mechanism of ATP binding in ATP-synthase at the Department of Bioenergetics of the Institute of Cellular Physiology with Dr. Marietta Tuena Sangri.

He is a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Chemistry of the UNAM and at the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM.

Since 2006 he has been a professor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the UAM Cuajimalpa. He has carried out research stays at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (UAB) in Barcelona, Spain (2007 and 2011).

His research work is related to the study of protein physical chemistry: stability, folding, and interactions between proteins and small molecules with an interest in drug design. Likewise, it conducts research in the design of biomaterials and the applications of semiochemicals.

He has directed 2 doctoral theses and six master's theses. He has published 23 research articles in indexed journals. He obtained the 2011 Research Prize awarded by the UAM. He is a founding member of the Branch of Physicalchemistry, Structure and Design of Proteins of the Mexican Society of Biochemistry (2006).

He has been a referee for The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) and the Journal of Computational Biology.

In the educational field he is a professor of the Molecular Biology Degree at the UAM Cuajimalpa and at the postgraduate level in teaching and tutorial committees in the Posgrado en Ciencias Naturales e Ingeniería at the UAM Cuajimalpa, in the Postgrado en Ciencias Química at the UAM Iztapalapa and in the Posgrado de Ciencias Farmacéuticas y Posgrado Ciencias Agropecuarias, both at the UAM Xochimilco.
