Profile
Professor Edith Arenas Rios was born in May 1975 in the State of Mexico, Mexico. She studied Experimental Biology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. She studied a Master's degree in Experimental Biology and a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences at the same institution. She is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and has the PRODEP Desirable Profile Recognition.
She is currently the Head of the Department of Reproductive Biology and was the Coordinator of the Master in Biology of Animal Reproduction (2017-2021); she is a Representative of the Academic Group of Biology of Animal Reproduction; Member of Several National and International Editorial Committees.
She belongs to the Department of Reproductive Biology in the Area of Assisted Animal Reproduction and is part of the Research Group of Reproductive Biology of Wildlife. Her field of specialization is Sperm Morphophysiology and Biochemistry.
She has participated in research projects such as: a "Study on the morpho-physiology of an endemic bat of Mexico (Corynorhinus mexicanus)"; a "Study of the reproductive biology of some bats with distribution in Mexico"; and "Mechanisms of membrane peroxidative protection in epididymal spermatozoa of the bat Corynorhinus mexicanus".
Responsible for the research projects: "Stability of the plasma membrane of Corynorhinus mexicanus spermatozoa: in their different stages of epididymal maturation, as mechanisms of prolonged storage"; and "Morphological, physiological and biochemical processes involved with vertebrate spermatozoa: from their formation to fertilization, as well as their conservation".
She is the proprietary representative of the Academic Staff of the Department of Reproductive Biology of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences.
Among the recognitions and awards she has received are: the Academic Merit Medal for being the best average of her generation in the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Experimental Biology and Doctorate in Biological and Health Sciences; Southwestern Association of Naturalists Student Travel Award, PROMEP-SEP Desirable Profile, as well as the Level I Distinction by the National System of Researchers.
