Profile
Professor Rafael Pérez y Pérez was born in Mexico City. He holds a degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, a Master's in Knowledge Based Systems, and a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, both degrees from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.
His area of research is computer modeling of the creative process, in particular the generation of narratives. In 2006 he founded the Interdisciplinary Group in Computational Creativity, which has developed computational models for interior design, visual composition, visual narratives, problem solving in geometry, musical composition, among others. This group organizes every year the International Colloquium on Computational Creativity.
Professor Pérez y Pérez has lectured at several universities in Mexico, Europe, and the United States. From 2015 to 2019 he was president of the "Association for Computational Creativity", an international organization based in Portugal that every year organizes the "International Conference on Computational Creativity"
He has published more than 65 scientific articles. He is editor of the book "Creatividad Computacional" published by Patria in CDMX, and author of "MEXICA 20 years - 20 stories" published by Counterpath Press in Denver, Colorado. He is currently a member of the SNI, level II, and a Professor at the Department of Information Technology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Cuajimalpa Campus, Mexico City.
