Profile
Professor Irmene Ortiz López has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Veracruzana-Xalapa (1992). Also, a master's degree (1998) and a Ph.D. degree (2003) in Chemical Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus, in Mexico City. In 1998, she was awarded with a scholarship by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where she completed specialization studies at the National Institute of Natural Resources and Environment (NIRE), in Tsukuba-Ibaraki, Japan.
She has completed doctoral stays in France, at the University of Montpellier II, in Montpellier (2000) and at the National Institute for Research in Agronomy (INRA) in Marseille (2001). Since 2006, she has been a Professor in the Department of Processes and Technology, Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Cuajimalpa Campus.
Her research interests are the application of Environmental Biotechnology for the remediation of soils polluted by recalcitrant organic compounds. On the other hand, she studies the pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials to obtain compounds that can transform into liquid and gaseous biofuels. Finally, she studies carbon footprint of organizations.
