Profile
Professor Gabriela Vázquez Silva is a Biologist from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus. She studied for a Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences and a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences at the same institution. She completed a postdoctoral stay at the Postgraduate Program in Livestock at the College of Postgraduates.
She has received the Distinctions: AMENA/DSM Award for Research in Animal Nutrition in 2013, Mexican Association of Animal Nutrition Specialists-AMENA for the research work "Use of bioencapsulated probiotics in Artemia in the growth, survival and intestinal microbiota of whitefish Chirostoma humboldtianum"; Recognition PRODEP Perfil Deseable, 2019-2021; and is a Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI), Level I, 2018-2021.

Her research focuses on Non-conventional aquaculture of wild aquatic species of the Xochimilco Lake Zone, such as axolotl, godeid, atherinid, and crustaceans, emphasizing their nutrition, reproduction, and analysis of the intestinal microbiota using molecular techniques.
The research has been developed mainly in the captive management of endemic wild aquatic fauna of Mexico to achieve its conservation and use, particularly in those freshwater species such as atherinids, axolotls, godeid, and crustaceans of the Lacustrine Zone of Xochimilco whose current situation It positions them as species at risk in Mexican and international regulations. The studies of these species have mainly focused on nutrition through food supplements as growth promoters, as well as aspects of the reproduction and modulation of the intestinal microbiota analyzed by molecular techniques.
She has formed human resources, 23 undergraduate and six graduate students, published book chapters, scientific articles, and articles in national and international journals, and presented research results in specialized events.
