Dr. Alejandro Caamaño Tomás was born in A Coruña, Spain, in April 1964. He studied Classical Philology (1995) at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He took a postgraduate pedagogical training course (1996) at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He studied the Doctorate in Hispanic Philology, at the University of A Coruña, Spain, and in 2015 he defended his thesis, which received an honorable mention.
He is a full-time tenured research professor, since 2011, and a professor at the UEA Reading and Writing I and II in the General Course of Subjects of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, and at the UEA Research: techniques and procedures for the career of Law. Likewise, he teaches the uea Teaching and learning of literature based on competencies in the Master's in Contemporary Mexican Literature, and research seminars for the Master's in Law, both at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus. He also directs theses for these master's degrees.
He has coordinated the research group Social Discourses and Communication, of the Department of Humanities of the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM from 2014 to 2017. This group specialized in the study of university literacy, academic literacy and discursive genres, and created a Web page "Of the essay and its writing in the UAM" that serves as support for the study and practice of the academic essay (http://elensayohipertextual.azc.uam.mx).
Since 2021 he has been a member of the Research Area of Comparative Literature, Applied Linguistics and Information and Communication Technologies (LICOTIC), of the Department of Humanities, in which the project "Writing Center at UAM A: a support to the students of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities”, for which he has been responsible since 2020.
Since 2012, he has been part of the Editorial Committee of the Fuentes Humanísticas, journal of the Department of Humanities.
He has published various research articles and essays on linguistics, late medieval and Renaissance Spanish literature, education, university reading and writing, and discursive genres in national and international books and magazines; and he has presented papers on these topics at national and international academic events.
