Profile

Professor Gerardo Tunal Santiago holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Sociology of Work and a Specialist in Survey Design from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). He has a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences with an orientation in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Visiting Professor at Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú (Brazil); Universidad Antonio Nariño (Colombia); Fundación Universitaria Juan de Castellanos (Colombia); Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Laborales CIEL (Argentina), Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil); Universidad Nacional de Loja (Ecuador), and Universidad de los Andes (Venezuela).

Awarded in December 2011 with the reprinting of a Special Dossier that integrates the ten most read articles on the 25th anniversary of the Colegio Mexiquense; in August 2007 with the Recognition to the Professor of Excellence granted by the Universidad del Valle de México (Mexico); in February 2007 with the Indexing in Directory Open Access Journals; in August 2006 with the Indexing in Guide to Discovery of CSA Sociological Abstracts; in December 2004 with an Honorable Mention in the First Metropolitan Prize of Economics and Administration awarded by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico); in June 2003 with the First Place in the National Prize of Research Works awarded by the National Association of Faculties and Schools of Accounting and Administration (Mexico), and in November 1998 with the University Merit Medal awarded by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico).

He has participated in national and international scientific dissemination congresses. He is a member of the referees' portfolio, an article writer for scientific journals in social sciences, and a member of some national and international scientific research networks.

His lines of research are: work and gender; informal sector and labor cultures; productive restructuring and science communication.

Work experience: Coordinator of Doctorates at Universidad La Salle (2006-2008); Professor-Researcher at Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (2002-2006), Professor at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (2004-2006), Director of the Sociology Area at Red de Revistas Científicas de América Latina y el Caribe, España y Portugal (2004), Professor-Researcher at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and, Researcher at Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social (1991-2001). He has collaborated with the following universities and public institutions: Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado, Instituto Federal Electoral, Fondo de Información y Documentación para la Industria INFOTEC, Universidad de las Américas, Universidad del Valle de México, Escuela Bancaria y Comercial, Universidad Mexicana, Universidad Intercontinental, Universidad del Valle de Orizaba, Universidad Latinoamericana, Universidad Tecnológica de México, Universidad Tecnológica Americana, Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica, Colegio de Bachilleres, and Instituto Tecnológico Roosevelt.
