Profile
Professor Marta Walkyria Torres Falcon was born in Mexico City in October 1958. She has a Law Degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Specialization in Women's Studies (El Colegio de México) and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a specialization in gender relations from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus.
She has the PRODEP desirable profile recognition and is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level II.
In her professional development, she has been Deputy Director of the Center for Attention to Domestic Violence (CAVI, Mexico City Attorney General's Office); Consultant for several United Nations agencies (FAO, UNHCR, UNDP) on the legal status of women, social violence and gender violence, human rights.
She has published several books: "La violencia en casa" (Paidós, 2001), "Al cerrar la puerta. Amistad, amor y odio en la familia" (Grupo Editorial Norma, 2005), "Con sus propias palabras. Relatos fragmentarios de víctimas de trata" (Cámara de Diputados, 2010). She has coordinated several volumes: "Violencia contra las mujeres en contextos urbanos y rurales" (El Colegio de México, 2004), "Nuevas maternidades y derechos reproductivos (El Colegio de México, 2005), "Entre dos fuegos: naturalización e invisibilidad de la violencia de género contra migrantes en territorio mexicano" (CIESAS, UAM, 2019), co-coordination.
She has published numerous chapters and articles on violence against women, the feminist movement, affirmative action, and human rights.
