Alfonso Rivas Cruces is a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). Master of Arts in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from the UAM.

In 2013, he created the Laboratory of Sustainable Habitat Studies to generate research products and the application of ecotechnologies that provide alternatives to the sustainable development of places with high marginalization and vulnerable groups. He has organized seminars and international forums on sustainable development. He has written articles, papers, and research projects in national and international forums.

He is co-author of the book "Basic Principles for Accessibility in Higher Education Institutions" (2017), and the compiler of the book "Studies and cases for a sustainable habitat" (2018). He has conducted research projects in collaboration with the Azcapotzalco Delegation and CONAFOVI (now CONAVI).

He has provided volunteer advice on design and technical expression of eco-techniques for the NGO Un Kilo de Ayuda (2016-2017). He has directed groups of students for the development of architectural projects in favor of ejido groups and indigenous communities. He is the founder of the architecture degree at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Estado de México (1996), serving as its director until 2001.

He coordinated the Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM, accrediting it before the ANPADEH - Acreditadora Nacional de Programas de Arquitectura y Disciplinas del Espacio Habitable A.C. (National Accreditation of Architecture Programs and Disciplines of Habitable Space, 2009-2013). He teaches design workshops oriented to alternative sustainable design, as well as subjects in climatology, sustainable design, and ecotechnologies.
