Profile

Professor Adriana Clemente Herrera is a Surgeon specialized in Medical and Surgical Emergencies. Undergraduate Professor in the third phase of the career of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Professor in the area of Emergency Medicine for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Private medical expert in the area of medical-surgical emergencies.

Research topic:
In December 2019, several cases of pneumonia were reported, whose causative agent would be called SARS-CoV-2 causing coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Although the main symptomatology is respiratory, other systems have been reported to be affected, the cardiovascular system being one of the main ones.

Cardiovascular involvement, which is less common and conditioned by a pathophysiological process of systemic inflammation, is mainly represented by acute myocardial damage, followed by arrhythmias, which the authors do not specify. Cardiogenic shock, heart failure, venous or systemic thromboembolism, and acute coronary syndrome have also been described in populations in which male sex predominates, older age and its associated with a worse prognosis. It is necessary to understand the cardiological manifestations by means of research that will also allow us to know their relationship with other risk factors and the medium and long-term repercussions in order to not only have timely clinical suspicion in these patients but also to offer appropriate and comprehensive care and management.
