Professor Gerardo García Muñoz, born in Mexico City, holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in economics from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). In graduate school, he chose to specialize in business, finance, and innovation, with his thesis "Financing of large companies in an environment of financial fragility", for which he received an honorable mention for best graduate research paper. For three years, he was a research assistant in the research area of Business, Finance, and Innovation, in the Department of Economics of the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM, where he began to participate in research projects directed by Dr. Celso Garrido Noguera.
For five years, he was in charge of the coordination of the Training and Professional Development Program, PROCAP-UAM, where he planned and organized several courses and diploma courses on business and financial topics aimed at students and graduates. He has also been a consultant and trainer in the economic-financial area.
Since 2011 he has been a Professor in the Department of Economics. His research covers topics of the national and international financial system in the context of economic development; the main ones are the banking system, monetary policy, development banking, SME public policy, entrepreneurial ecosystem, university-enterprise linkage, financial inclusion, and education, among others.
From 2018 to the present, he has been head of the Research Area in Business, Finance, and Innovation, promoting and being responsible for the following research projects: Economics and Business; Innovation and Digital Transformation in Financial Markets; and Global Monetary Liquidity and Central Banking.
He has twice been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Tiempo Económico magazine, where he is currently a member of the magazine's editorial board. He has served as a reviewer of research articles in various indexed journals and scientific books. He has coordinated several congresses and seminars and participated in several research seminars presenting his research results. He has advised theses and suitable communications of results (ICR).
In recent years he has taught the Seminar on Economic Development I and II in the area of monetary and financial issues, from which he has motivated students to specialize in these lines of research.
He is currently finishing his doctoral studies in administrative sciences, where he is researching the role of SMEs in economic development in Mexico. Professor with PRODEP profile.
