Professor Maria Esther Sanchez Martinez studied Industrial Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus, she studied Philosophy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Master and Ph.D. in Design in the line of Urban Studies.

She is a professor at the UAM Azcapotzalco Campus and is attached to the Area of Urban Studies in the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design. She is currently head of the Urban Studies Area and editor of the Urban Spaces Yearbook. Her research interests are urban history, cartography, and Mexico City's history.
