Doctor Gilberto Vela Correa is a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus; with PRODEP Profile (2004-2020) and Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of CONACYT (2008-2011). He is attached to the Department of Man and his Environment at UAM Xochimilco Campus.
He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the UAM Xochimilco Campus; a Master's degree in Sciences (Soil Science) from the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); and a Ph.D. in Sciences (Biology) from the Faculty of Sciences of the UNAM. He has participated in developing 48 projects related to agricultural production, environmental impact assessment, land use planning, carbon sequestration, and forestry assessments, as well as technical projects related to agricultural production with producers from the CDMX and other states.
He has won the Teaching Award in 2011, 2017, and 2019; Recognition for teaching for ten years of the diploma course on Desertification and Sustainable Agriculture. He participated in the consulting firm PLANECO, S. C. in developing various environmental impact and land use planning projects in several states of the Mexican Republic. He has carried out topographic studies for rural communities of the Federal District in the elaboration of planimetric and altimetric plans in irrigation systems design and urban parceling.
Currently, he continues to support producers in the state of Michoacán, the State of Mexico, and CDMX with advisory services for the production of diverse crops and soil recovery; PUBLIC SECTOR. He worked in CORENADER as head of the Agricultural Mechanization and Agricultural Technical Assistance Program for Vegetable, Forage, and Basic Crops Producers in the Agricultural Zone of Tláhuac and Milpa Alta. He also participated in the IDB-CORENA Project in the preparation of various studies in the Natural Protected Areas and Conservation Soil. IICA participated in the National Peasant Confederation (CNC), preparing technical and economic feasibility projects for producers in Sonora.
