Profile
Professor Aleida Azamar Alonso holds a Ph.D. in International Economics and Development from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has a Master's degree in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a specialization in Culture, Society, and Development from the same University. She also holds a Diploma in Desertification and Sustainable Agriculture in Degraded Agroecosystems from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and the Universidad de la Habana, and a Diploma in Telecommunications from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. Full-time Senior Research Professor in the Department of Economic Production at UAM.
Coordinator of the Master's in Sustainable Societies at the same institution. Member of the National System of Researchers CONACYT, and has had a desirable PRODEP-SEP profile since 2012.
Member of various organizations and editorial boards. She has published and coordinated various books, has more than 150 publications including scientific articles, outreach articles, and book chapters. She has participated in over 200 national and international academic conferences. Has directed postgraduate and undergraduate theses and has coordinated and advised different economic, social, and environmental evaluation projects with Institutes and government departments. She has also collaborated with newspapers El Universal and La Crónica in Mexico.
She has received various awards and scholarships, including the Latin American Views Publication Prize by CLACSO and Siglo XXI (2020), three Area Research Prizes from the Autonomous Metropolitan University, and a Teaching Prize in 2021 from the same institution.
Her research interests are Political economy, ecological economics, extractivism, mining, energy, sustainability, ecofeminism, social and environmental movements and conflicts.
As a postgraduate professor, she has taught the Doctorate in Social Sciences, Master in Sustainable Societies, Master in Design, Master in Economics, Management and Public Policy (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana). And in the Bachelor of Administration, Economics, Biology, Politics and Social Management (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana).
She has been a Visiting Professor at the Master in Economics and Law of Climate Change Flacso, Argentina. Master in Finance and Corporate Projects at the University of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Master in Latin American Studies, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Costa Rica. Master's Degree in Bioethics, Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, Mexico. Specialization in Economics Dissemination at the Interactive Museum of Economics (MIDE). International Diploma in Environmental Thought "Cátedra Gonzálo Palomino Ortiz", Universidad del Tolima, Colombia. Diploma in Science Dissemination from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Diploma on Social Impact Assessment and Consultation- Flacso, Mexico.
