Dr. Edmar Salinas Callejas is an economist from the Faculty of Economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he earned his bachelor’s degree with the thesis “Capital Accumulation in Mexico during the Stabilizing Development Period (1956-1976)”, presented in 1982. He pursued graduate studies at El Colegio de Michoacán A.C., earning a master’s degree in Rural Studies with the thesis “The Valorization and Internationalization of the Strawberry Agroindustrial Capital in the Zamora Region (1976-1990)”, completed in 1992. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Sciences with a specialization in Agricultural Economics from El Colegio de Postgraduados, Montecillo Campus, with the thesis “Marshallian Price Elasticities of Demand in Mexican Coffee (1976-2000)”, defended in 2005.
Dr. Salinas Callejas’ main research focus lies in the development of Mexican agriculture, addressing topics such as economic modernization, technological innovation, changes in agricultural economic systems and regimes, agroindustrialization, family farming, agricultural prices, and sustainable agriculture.
In the teaching domain, he has developed research lines to support courses related to the growth models of the Mexican economy and Latin American economies. He has provided guidance to over 100 students in preparing their terminal research protocols and has supervised more than 60 terminal research projects and theses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
His academic contributions include 36 chapters in collective books, approximately 34 specialized and outreach articles published in journals, and two books authored independently. Currently, his primary research project is affiliated with the Productive Relations research area in the Department of Economics at the Azcapotzalco Campus of UAM.
Dr. Salinas Callejas is a member of the inter-institutional network Asociación Mexicana de Investigación Interdisciplinaria A.C. (ASMIIA) and participated in the founding of El Colegio del Estado de Hidalgo in 2008.
