Profile
Professor Francisco José Fernández Perrino has a degree in Biology from the University of Salamanca (Spain) and received in 1989 the Extraordinary Degree Award from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Salamanca (Spain).
He received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of León (Spain), with a work on the production of antibiotics by fungi. For this thesis, he obtained in 1999 the Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the Faculty of Biology of the University of León (Spain).
He is currently a Professor since 2000, in the Department of Biotechnology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. He has received on five occasions (2003, 2005, 2005, 2007, 2014, and 2016) the Teaching Award and two (2005 and 2012) the Research Award by the Division of Biological and Health Sciences (Iztapalapa Campus). He has been a Mexican Academy of Sciences member and has belonged to the National System of Researchers of Mexico (Level II) since July 2001. Likewise, he has been a member of the expert base of the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP), Spain, since February 2016 to date.
In the research aspect, his interests are focused on Genetic Engineering of industrial microorganisms, as well as obtaining compounds of interest by means of microorganisms. He has directed or advised a total of two Postdoctoral work, more than 39 Doctoral Theses, more than 50 Master's Theses, four Specialty Theses, and more than 40 Bachelor's Theses or Social Service. As a result of this work, he has more than a 100 publications in international journals, more than 17 book chapters, and three patents (two international and one Mexican).
