Profile
Luis Enrique Gómez Quiroz is a Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, where he also serves as coordinator of Graduate Studies of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences. He is a graduate in Experimental Biology (master's and doctorate), studies that earned him the medal for university merit at both levels.
Subsequently, he did his postdoctorate at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health of the United States (NIH); his work was related to the cellular, molecular and genomic mechanisms of the onset and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma, a field in which he continues to develop, in addition to this, other lines of research in which he works are the control of gene expression by changes in the cellular redox state controlled by HGF and c-Met, and in general the mechanisms of damage and repair of liver diseases, using from cellular models in vitro, genomic, to preclinical in animals and clinical approaches in patients.
He has directed several doctoral, master's, and bachelor's theses. He has received several national and international awards.
He is a member of: National System of Researchers (SNI) at its highest level (SNI-III); the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, -the International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA); Mexican Academy of Sciences; among other national and international scientific associations.
He has published more than 130 papers, most of them international, including original articles, review articles, books, and book chapters, among others. He has been an evaluator of the best doctoral theses at CINVESTAV (Arturo Rosemblueth Award), a member of the Awards Committee of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and of the awards granted by the Mexican Foundation for Liver Health, among others.
He has taught and lectured at higher education institutions and research centers in Mexico and abroad, including Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, Rennes University, France, National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health (NCI/NIH), Bethesda MD, USA. He has lectured at various conferences, symposia, and meetings in Egypt, Spain, Japan, France, USA, Italy, and Germany, among others.
He collaborates with institutions in the United States, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Korea in the field of liver cancer and cellular redox state biology.
