Profile
Professor Anabel Jiménez Anguiano studied Biology at the Faculty of Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) (1989). Afterward, she completed her Master's degree (1993) and Ph.D. (1996) in the postgraduate program of Basic Biomedical Research (Neurosciences Area) at UNAM. She also completed a postdoctoral stay (1996-1997) at the Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, UNAM.
At the end of 1997, she was hired as Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Iztapalapa Campus. She has taught Neurobiology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has actively participated in advising undergraduate students in terminal research projects and social service at the Iztapalapa Campus. At the postgraduate level, she has contributed to the training of Master's and Ph.D. students in excellence postgraduate programs at the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM, such as Reproductive Biology, Experimental Biology, and Biological and Health Sciences, in collaboration with researchers from the National Institutes of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received the Teaching Award granted by the UAM in 2010.
Her lines of research deal with the neurochemical mechanisms involved in the basic and clinical aspects of the sleep-wake cycle, stress, and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to the neuroendocrine regulation of reproductive behavior. She has published several papers in national and international journals, as well as books and book chapters. She was Head of the Neuroscience Research area of the Department of Reproductive Biology from 2002 to 2013 and a member of the Academic Commission of the Graduate Program in Experimental Biology (2010-2014). She is currently a member of the Examining Committee of the Biological Sciences area of the UAM (2018-2020).
She received the research award granted by the UAM in 2001 and 2003. She has the desirable PRODEP profile. She has directed two research networks with PRODEP support with researchers and students from the Faculty of Chemistry of UNAM, Universidad Veracruzana, and Centro Tlaxcala de Biología de la Conducta, in the study of neuroendocrine and neurochemical regulation of reproductive behavior and sleep. She has received support from CONACyT as Head of a couple of research projects at the Iztapalapa Campus of UAM.
She is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level I.
