Profile

Professor Nicte Fabiola Escárzaga was born in October 1960. She is a Sociology graduate from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Thesis: José Carlos Mariategui, an interpretation, advised by Mtro. Lucio Oliver Costilla. Approved with Honorable Mention. Studied the Master's Degree in Latin American Studies at the Graduate Studies Division, Division of Social Graduate Studies, UNAM. Thesis: La guerra popular de Sendero Luminoso, advised by Dr. Raquel Sosa Elízaga. Approved with Honorable Mention. Doctorate in Latin American Studies, initiated in August 1997 to January 2000 by the Graduate Studies Division of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the UNAM. Thesis: The indigenous community in the insurgent strategies of the end of the 20th century in Peru, Bolivia, and Mexico, tutor Dr. Ricardo Melgar Bao. Submitted on December 11, 2006. Approved with Honorable Mention.

Since September 1997, she has been a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco Campus, in the Department of Politics and Culture in the Area of Latin American Problems. Professor in the Graduate Program in Latin American Studies at UNAM, since 2008. Member of the National System of Researchers since 2007. Level II since 2018.

Research topics: Indigenous-based armed insurgencies in Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia; Indigenous movement in Latin America; Progressive governments and social movements in Latin America; Indianisms in Latin America; Indigenous education in Mexico and Latin America; and Comparative educational systems in Latin America.
